Abstract Introduction: Home Care (HC) is directly responsible for reducing the demand for hospital beds in Brazil. Brazilian Home Hospitalization model in the private sector was built on continuous nursing care for the last 30-years without further review. Objectives: Find if Brazilian Home Hospitalization model aligns with the different HC models in effect around the world, evaluate its limitations and challenges and propose a new cost-effective model of domiciliary care in Brazil called Hospital at Home (HaH). Method: Review of articles published in databases, conference proceedings, clinical practice guidelines, and government regulations between 2006-2022. 920 patients receiving care in the Home Hospitalization modality by a private HC company in Brazil were analyzed in November 2022. Results: European and North American HC models are not built on continuous nursing care. 920 patients receiving care in the Home Hospitalization modality by a private HC company in Brazil had their eligibility assessed in November 2022 to be included in the new HaH model, proposed with 10 evidence-based pillars where a multidisciplinary team is aided by a care partner engagement approach and a clinical management strategy based on data analysis supported by digital health resources. Conclusions: We believe the HaH model will reshape home hospitalization in Brazil, set up the groundwork for value-based Home Care and contribute to the sustainability of Brazilian HC.

Resumen Introducción: Home Care (HC) es directamente responsable por la reducción de la demanda de camas hospitalarias en Brasil. El modelo brasileño de hospitalización domiciliaria en el sector privado se basó en la atención continua de enfermería durante los últimos 30 años sin revisión adicional. Objetivos: Descubrir si el modelo brasileño de hospitalización domiciliaria se alinea con los diferentes modelos HC vigentes en todo el mundo, analizar sus limitaciones y desafíos y proponer un nuevo modelo rentable de atención domiciliaria en Brasil llamado Hospital at Home (HaH). Método: Revisión de artículos publicados en bases de datos, actas de congresos, guías de práctica clínica y regulaciones gubernamentales entre 2006-2022. Se analizaron 920 pacientes atendidos en la modalidad de Hospitalización Domiciliaria por una empresa privada de HC en Brasil en noviembre de 2022. Resultados: Los modelos de HC europeos y norteamericanos no se basan en cuidados de enfermería continuos. Si analizó la elegibilidad de 920 pacientes atendidos en la modalidad de Hospitalización Domiciliaria por una empresa privada de HC en Brasil en noviembre de 2022 para inclusión en el nuevo modelo HaH, propuesto con 10 pilares basados en evidencia donde un equipo multidisciplinario es ayudado por enfoque de participación del socio de atención y una estrategia de gestión clínica basada en análisis de datos apoyados en recursos digitales de salud. Conclusiones: Creemos que el modelo HaH remodelará la hospitalización domiciliaria en Brasil, establecerá las bases para la atención domiciliaria basada en el valor y contribuirá a la sostenibilidad de la HC brasileña.

Abstract Spintherobolus papilliferus is an endangered characid endemic of the Atlantic Rainforest, known from sparse locations in the upper rio Tietê basin around the metropolitan area of São Paulo city, and from an affluent of rio Itapanhaú, a coastal stream in Bertioga, São Paulo State. In 2020, S. papilliferus was sampled from the rio Ribeira de Iguape basin in Juquitiba, São Paulo State, representing a new distributional record. We compared 17 morphometric and six meristic characters from all specimens with data from the rios Tietê and Itapanhaú. An overlap in the morphological data from the three populations was detected, except for five measure whose values are lower in rio Ribeira de Iguape. MANOVA and LDA revealed that this population differs significantly from the other two, showing shallower body and caudal peduncle, among other features. These morphological differences may be due to environmental selective pressures since rio Ribeira de Iguape drainage is marked by fast waters which can influence the shape of fish bodies over time. DNA-barcoding of all Spintherobolus species corroborate that the rio Ribeira de Iguape population belongs to S. papilliferus. We also present a hypothesis for the disjunct distribution of S. papilliferus involving headwater capture and discuss the implications for the conservation of this endangered species.

Resumo Spintherobolus papilliferus é um caracídeo endêmico da Mata Atlântica e ameaçado de extinção, conhecido de localidades esparsas na bacia do alto rio Tietê, região metropolitana da cidade de São Paulo, e de um afluente do rio Itapanhaú, um riacho costeiro em Bertioga, Estado de São Paulo. Em 2020, S. papilliferus foi amostrada na bacia do rio Ribeira de Iguape em Juquitiba, São Paulo, representando um novo registro de distribuição. Comparamos 17 caracteres morfométricos e seis merísticos dos exemplares com dados dos rios Tietê e Itapanhaú. Houve sobreposição nos valores dos dados exceto em cinco medidas cujos valores são menores no rio Ribeira de Iguape. MANOVA e LDA revelaram que esta população difere significativamente das demais populações, sendo estes exemplares caracterizados pelas menores alturas do corpo e pedúnculo caudal, dentre outras características. Estas diferenças morfológicas possivelmente decorrem de pressões ambientais, pois a drenagem do rio Ribeira de Iguape possui ambientes de corredeiras velozes que podem influenciar no formato do corpo dos peixes. DNA-barcoding de todas as espécies de Spintherobolus corroborou que a população do rio Ribeira de Iguape pertence à S. papilliferus. Apresentamos também uma hipótese para a distribuição disjunta de S. papilliferus envolvendo captura de cabeceiras e discutimos implicações para a conservação dessa espécie ameaçada.

Abstract Chicken broilers digestibility and performance fed with different ME levels, with and without adjustments of digestible lysine, calcium, and available phosphorus, were evaluated. For digestibility, 210 male Cobb 500 chicken broilers were used and distributed into a 3x2+1 factorial arrangement, with three ME levels (3050; 3125 and 3200 kcal/kg) with and without nutrient adjustment, plus one control treatment (2975 kcal ME/kg), totaling seven treatments including six repetitions with five birds into each repetition. For initial performance, 1120 birds were distributed randomly with eight replications within treatments and 20 birds for each replication. For final performance, 1008 chickens were distributed with eight replications and 18 birds for each replication. The DCDM and DCCP were improved (P<0.05) according to the increase of ME and the adjustment in dietary nutrients, as well as GE digestibility. The final performance showed no interaction (P>0.05) between energy and nutrient adjustment, but the increase in energy levels improved the feed conversion ratio (FCR=1.370). Increasing energy density with nutrient adjustment improves both nutrient utilization and bird performance.

Abstract The risk of pregnancy loss in mares leads to the use of exogenous hormones to help pregnancy maintenance. The objective was to evaluate the proportion of thyroid hormones and steroids in neonates, in the following postpartum period, born to mares fed with synthetic progesterone and to verify the existence of a correlation between the level of progesterone between mother and neonate. Twenty-seven mares and their foals were used. The animals were divided into 5 experimental groups: group 1 (control, without hormonal supplementation), group 2 (random samples fed to 120 days of pregnancy with long-term progesterone), group 3 (mares fed with short-term progesterone as of 280.º day of pregnancy), group 4 (mares fed with long-term progesterone as of 280.º day of pregnancy) and group 5 (mares fed with synthetic hormone [altrenogest] as of 280.º day of pregnancy). The animal’s blood collection took place immediately after parturition for the hormonal measurement. The hormones measured in neonates were total T3, free T4, TSH, progesterone and cortisone. In mares, only levels of progesterone. The groups of neonates showed no difference on levels of total T3, free T4, TSH and progesterone. There was no difference on levels of progesterone in mares among the groups. Neonates from groups 4 and 5 had higher and lower cortisone levels, respectively. No neonate showed clinical change. There was also no correlation between levels of progesterone in mares and foals. Thus, hormonal supplementation with long-term progesterone as of 280 days of pregnancy leds to an increase in the neonate's cortisone levels, in the meantime, supplementation with altrenogest as of 280 days of pregnancy caused a decrease on cortisone levels in foals, despite clinical signs have not been observed on these animals.

Abstract In this study, a new species of Rhyacoglanis is described from the Jamanxim River basin, Tapajós River basin. The new species differs from congeners based on the combination of the following diagnostic characters: two oblique dark bands formed by an agglomerate of melanophores on the predorsal region; dorsal confluence between the dark subdorsal and subadipose bands in large juveniles and adults; ventral confluence between the dark subadipose and caudal peduncle bands; body without conspicuous dark brown spots; complete dark band on caudal peduncle; body with three dark bands; a thin dark caudal-fin band; pectoral-fin spine with anterior serrae distributed along the entire margin; the posterior tip of the post-cleithral process reaching vertical through the base of the dorsal-fin spine; and hypural 5 free of hypural 3 and 4 and pointed caudal-fin lobes. Additionally, our molecular phylogenetic results using ultraconserved elements (UCEs) corroborate the new species as Rhyacoglanis and sister to an undescribed species of Rhyacoglanis from the Xingu River basin. Moreover, as pointed out in previous studies, we confirm Cruciglanis as a sister group to Pseudopimelodus plus Rhyacoglanis.

Resumo Neste estudo, uma nova espécie de Rhyacoglanis é descrita para a bacia do rio Jamanxim, bacia do rio Tapajós. A nova espécie difere de congêneres com base na combinação dos seguintes caracteres diagnósticos: duas faixas escuras oblíquas formadas por um aglomerado de melanóforos na região predorsal, confluência dorsal entre as faixas subdorsais escuras e subadiposas em adultos grandes, confluência ventral entre as faixas subadiposas escuras e do pedúnculo caudal em adultos grandes, corpo sem manchas escuras proeminentes de cor marrom, faixa escura completa no pedúnculo caudal, corpo com três faixas escuras e uma fina faixa escura na nadadeira caudal, espinho da nadadeira peitoral com serrilhas anteriores distribuídas ao longo de toda a margem, extremidade posterior do processo pós-cleitral atingindo verticalmente a base do espinho da nadadeira dorsal, hipural 5 livre dos hipurais 3 e 4 e lobos da nadadeira caudal pontiagudos. Adicionalmente, nossos resultados filogenéticos moleculares utilizando elementos ultraconservados (UCEs) corroboram a nova espécie como Rhyacoglanis é irmã de uma espécie não descrita de Rhyacoglanis da bacia do rio Xingu. Além disso, como apontado em estudos anteriores, confirmamos que Cruciglanis é um grupo irmão de Pseudopimelodus mais Rhyacoglanis.

Resumo O peixe-espada, Trichiurus lepturus, é um predador oportunista, voraz e piscívoro. Os estudos do comportamento alimentar dos peixes com base na análise do conteúdo estomacal são limitados pelo potencial de identificação visual do material ingerido. No entanto, ferramentas moleculares, em particular o DNA barcode, têm sido utilizadas com sucesso para identificar o conteúdo do estômago. Quando as análises morfológicas não são possíveis, essas ferramentas moleculares podem identificar com precisão os componentes da dieta de um peixe com base em seu conteúdo estomacal. Este estudo utilizou o mini barcode (uma sequencia parcial do gene COI do DNA mitocondrial) para identificar alimentos ingeridos por T. lepturus no litoral Norte do estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Quarenta e seis sequências foram obtidas e combinadas com seis espécies diferentes de peixes: Pimelodus maculatus, Paralonchurus brasiliensis, Isopisthus parvipinnis, Opisthonema oglinum, Harengula clupeola e Pellona harroweri ou como pertencente aos gêneros Lycengraulis e Sardinella. Trichiurus lepturus é um predador oportunista que explora qualquer presa disponível que possua tamanho apropriado. Os resultados indicam que esses peixes migram para águas mais quentes em determinadas épocas do ano, como as encontradas em ambientes estuarinos, onde exploram espécies que se reproduzem neste ambiente. Um exemplo foi Pimelodus maculatus, sendo a espécie mais explorada por T. lepturus, a partir da análise do material coletado.

Abstract The largehead hairtail, Trichiurus lepturus, is an opportunistic, voracious, and piscivorous predator. Studies of fish feeding behavior based on the analysis of stomach contents are limited by the potential for the visual identification of the ingesta. However, molecular tools, in particular DNA barcoding, have been used successfully to identify stomach contents. When morphological analyses are not possible, molecular tools can precisely identify the components of the diet of a fish based on its stomach contents. This study used mini barcoding to identify food items ingested by T. lepturus off the northern coast of São Paulo State, Brazil. Forty-six sequences were obtained and were diagnosed as belonging to six different fish species: Pimelodus maculatus, Paralonchurus brasiliensis, Isopisthus parvipinnis, Opisthonema oglinum, Harengula clupeola, and Pellona harroweri or as belonging to the genera Lycengraulis and Sardinella. Trichiurus lepturus is an opportunistic predator that will exploit an available prey of an appropriate size. The results indicate that these fish migrate to warmer waters, such as those found in estuarine environments, at certain times of the year, where they exploit prey species that reproduce in this environment. One example was Pimelodus maculatus, which was the prey species most exploited based on the analysis of the material collected.

Resumo Prochilodus lineatus é uma espécie de peixe migratório amplamente distribuído na bacia do rio Paraná, principalmente nos rios Grande, Pardo e Mogi-Guaçu localizados em uma região bem desenvolvida do estado de São Paulo. Este estudo analisou a diversidade genética e a estrutura populacional em cardumes de P. lineatus com base na análise temporal de espécimes amostrados ao longo dos anos de 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010 e 2015 na Cachoeira de Emas no rio Mogi-Guaçu, São Paulo, Brasil. A análise genética realizada com o marcador D-Loop e sete microssatélites revelou variabilidade genética significativa em todos os grupos amostrados. Níveis moderados de estruturação entre os grupos foram identificados com os marcadores microssatélites (Fst = 0.14), enquanto o marcador mitocondrial não revelou padrões de estruturação genética (Fst = 0.01). A variabilidade genética identificada no estoque oscilou ao longo do tempo, caracterizando padrões de estruturação entre as amostras analisadas. A ocorrência de alterações ambientais resultando em aumento das taxas de mortalidade, bem como mudanças no nível de água no ecossistema, entre outros fatores, podem determinar mudanças no comportamento reprodutivo das espécies. A falta de condições ambientais favoráveis para a reprodução na bacia, pode ter resultado na diferenciação das populações de P. lineatus ao longo do tempo.

Abstract Prochilodus lineatus is a species of migratory fish widely distributed in the Paraná River basin, found mainly in the Grande, Pardo and Mogi-Guaçu rivers located in a well-developed region of the state of São Paulo. This study analyzes the genetic diversity and population structure in shoals of P. lineatus based on temporal analysis of specimens sampled over the years 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, and 2015 in the Mogi-Guaçu River, São Paulo, at the region of Cachoeira de Emas. Genetic analysis performed using the D-Loop and seven microsatellite marker revealed significant genetic variability in all sampled groups. Moderate levels of structuring between groups were identified with the microsatellite markers (Fst = 0.14), while the mitochondrial marker did not reveal patterns of genetic structuring (Fst = 0.01). The genetic variability fluctuated over time, characterizing patterns of structuring among the analyzed samples. The occurrence of environmental alterations resulting in increased mortality rates, as well as changes in the water level in the ecosystem, among other factors, could determine changes in the reproductive behavior of species. The lack of favorable environmental conditions for reproduction in the basin, as reflected by tests of population bottlenecks, could have resulted in the differentiation of populations of P. lineatus over time.

RESUMO Parodontidae é um grupo relativamente pequeno de peixes caraciformes neotropicais que consiste em três gêneros (Apareiodon, Parodon e Saccodon) com 32 espécies válidas. Uma vasta literatura citogenética está disponível sobre Apareiodon e Parodon, mas até o momento não há dados citogenéticos sobre Saccodon, um gênero que contém apenas três espécies com distribuição transandina. No presente estudo foi descrito o cariótipo de S. wagneri, baseado em métodos convencionais (coloração de Giemsa, Ag-NOR, bandas C) e moleculares (mapeamento de DNA repetitivo por hibridização fluorescente in situ). Um número cromossômico diplóide de 2n = 54 foi observado, e a presença de cromossomos sexuais heteromórficos do tipo ZZ/ZW foi revelada. O cromossomo W possui uma banda terminal heterocromática que ocupa aproximadamente metade do braço longo, sendo esta banda aproximadamente a metade do tamanho do cromossomo Z. O ensaio FISH mostrou uma sintenia dos genes 18S-rDNA e 5S-rDNA no par de cromossomos 14, e a ausência de sítios teloméricos intersticiais. Nossos dados reforçam a hipótese de uma estrutura cariotípica conservadora em Parodontidae e sugerem uma origem ancestral dos cromossomos sexuais nos peixes desta família.

ABSTRACT Parodontidae is a relatively small group of Neotropical characiform fishes consisting of three genera (Apareiodon, Parodon, and Saccodon) with 32 valid species. A vast cytogenetic literature is available on Apareiodon and Parodon, but to date, there is no cytogenetic data about Saccodon, a genus that contains only three species with a trans-Andean distribution. In the present study the karyotype of S. wagneri was described, based on both conventional (Giemsa staining, Ag-NOR, C-bands) and molecular (repetitive DNA mapping by fluorescent in situ hybridization) methods. A diploid chromosome number of 2n = 54 was observed in both sexes, and the presence of heteromorphic sex chromosomes of the ZZ/ZW type was detected. The W chromosome has a terminal heterochromatin band that occupies approximately half of the long arm, being this band approximately half the size of the Z chromosome. The FISH assay showed a synteny of the 18S-rDNA and 5S-rDNA genes in the chromosome pair 14, and the absence of interstitial telomeric sites. Our data reinforce the hypothesis of a conservative karyotype structure in Parodontidae and suggest an ancient origin of the sex chromosomes in the fishes of this family.

RESUMO Uma nova espécie de Hyphessobrycon pertencente ao grupo Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus é descrita da região do baixo rio Tapajós, estado do Pará, Brasil. A nova espécie é incluída no grupo Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus devido ao seu padrão de coloração, composto por uma mancha umeral alongada, anteriormente bem definida, que se torna difusa e borrada posteriormente, onde se sobrepõe a uma conspícua faixa escura médio-lateral que se torna borrada próxima ao pedúnculo caudal, e pela presença, em exemplares vivos, de um padrão longitudinal tricolor, composto por uma faixa longitudinal vermelha ou avermelhada dorsal, uma faixa média iridescente dourada ou prateada e, mais ventralmente, o padrão longitudinal escuro composto pela faixa escura médio-lateral e mancha umeral. A espécie pode ser distinguida das outras espécies pertencentes ao grupo por possuir uma mancha umeral com região ventral retilínea ou levemente arredondada, sem uma expansão ventral presente nas demais espécies do grupo. A espécie também se diferencia de Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus por uma distância genética de 9,6% no gene citocromo c oxidase I. A sutil diferença morfológica da nova espécie quando comparada ao seu congênere mais similar, H. heterorhabdus, indica que a nova espécie é uma das primeiras espécies de peixes verdadeiramente crípticas descritas da Bacia Amazônica.

ABSTRACT A new species of Hyphessobrycon belonging to the Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus species-group from the lower rio Tapajós, state of Pará, Brazil, is described. The new species is allocated into the Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus species-group due to its color pattern, composed by an anteriorly well-defined, horizontally elongated humeral blotch that becomes diffuse and blurred posteriorly, where it overlaps with a conspicuous midlateral dark stripe that becomes blurred towards the caudal peduncle and the presence, in living specimens, of a tricolored longitudinal pattern composed by a dorsal red or reddish longitudinal stripe, a middle iridescent, golden or silvery longitudinal stripe, and a more ventrally-lying longitudinal dark pattern composed by the humeral blotch and dark midlateral stripe. It can be distinguished from all other species of the group by possessing humeral blotch with a straight or slightly rounded ventral profile, lacking a ventral expansion present in all other species of the group. The new species is also distinguished from Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus by a 9.6% genetic distance in the cytochrome c oxidase I gene. The little morphological distinction of the new species when compared with its most similar congener, H. heterorhabdus, indicates that the new species is one of the first truly cryptic fish species described from the Amazon basin.

Abstract Hollandichthys is a fish genus of the family Characidae that was until recently considered to be monotypic, with cytogenetic, morphological, and molecular data being restricted to a few local populations. In the present study, the karyotype of a population of Hollandichthys multifasciatus was analyzed using classical and molecular cytogenetic approaches for the investigation of potential markers that could provide new perspectives on the cytotaxonomy. H. multifasciatus presented a diploid number of 2n=50 chromosomes and a karyotype formula of 8m+10sm+32st. A single pair of chromosomes presented Ag-NORs signals, which coincided with the 18S rDNA sites visualized by FISH, whilst the 5S rDNA sequences were mapped in two chromosome pairs. The distribution of the U snRNA genes was mapped on the Hollandichthys chromosomes for the first time, with the probes revealing the presence of the U1 snDNA on the chromosomes of pair 20, U2 on pairs 6 and 19, U4 on pair 16, and U6 on the chromosomes of pair 11. The results of the present study indicated karyotypic differences in comparison with the other populations of H. multifasciatus studied previously, reinforcing the need for further research to identify isolated populations or the potential existence of cryptic Hollandichthys species.

Abstract The chromosomes of two freshwater stingrays, Potamotrygon motoro and Potamotrygon sp., from the Amazon River basin in Brazil were investigated using integrated molecular (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1) and cytogenetic analyses. Potamotrygon motoro presented intraspecific variation in the diploid number, with 2n=66 in the females and 2n=65 in the males, while Potamotrygon sp. had a karyotype with 66 chromosomes, in both sexes. The C-banding revealed the presence of heterochromatic blocks accumulated in the centromeric region of all the chromosomes in both species. The FISH assays with 18S DNA probes highlighted the terminal region of three or four chromosome pairs in P. motoro and seven chromosomes in Potamotrygon sp. The rDNA 5S sequences were found in only one chromosomal pair in both species. The interspecific genetic distance based on the COI sequences, between P. motoro and Potamotrygon sp. from Amazon River was 10.8%, while that between the Amazonian P. motoro and Potamotrygon amandae from the Paraná River was 2.2%, and the genetic distance between Potamotrygon sp. and P. amandae was 11.8%. In addition to the new insights on the cytogenetics of the study species, the results of the present study confirmed the existence of heteromorphic sex-linked chromosomes in P. motoro.

RESUMO: Com o objetivo de investigar o grau de parasitismo de duas populações de Meloidogyne exigua, o índice de galhas (IG) e o fator de reprodução (FR) de M. exigua raças 1 (Est E2) e 2 (Est E1) foram analisados em 47 progênies na geração F3:4 ou F4:5, derivadas do cruzamento entre Coffea arabica cv. Catuaí Amarelo e Híbrido de Timor. Plantas de C. canephora cv. Apoatã IAC 2258 e C. arabica cv. Catuaí Vermelho IAC 144 foram usadas como padrão de resistência e de suscetibilidade, respectivamente. Os genótipos que foram classificados como resistentes ou suscetíveis pelo FR foram similarmente classificados pelo IG, mostrando uma estreita relação entre as duas metodologias para a avaliação da resistência. Os dados também indicaram que não houve diferenças quanto à virulência entre as duas populações do nematoide, uma vez que as progênies mostraram similar reação de resistência a M. exigua raça 1 e 2. De acordo com o IG, das 47 plantas-mãe avaliadas, 27 progenies (57,4%) foram classificadas como resistentes a M. exigua raças 1 e 2, com IG variando de 0,0 a 1,4 e 20 progenies (42,6%) foram suscetíveis, com IG variando de 2,6 a 4,4. Esses resultados mostraram que a maioria dos germoplasmas avaliados foi muito promissora em relação ao desenvolvimento de novas cultivares de café Arábica com resistência a M. exigua.

ABSTRACT: To investigate the degree of parasitism of two populations of Meloidogyne exigua, the gall index (GI) and the reproduction factor (RF) of M. exigua races 1 (Est E2) and 2 (Est E1) were analyzed in 47 progenies on F3:4 or F4:5 generation derived from the crossing between Coffea arabica cv. Catuaí Amarelo and Timor Hybrid. C. canephora cv. Apoatã IAC 2258 and C. arabica cv. Catuaí Vermelho IAC 144 were used as resistance and susceptibility checks, respectively. The genotypes that were classified as resistant or susceptible by RF were similarly classified by GI, showing a close relationship between both methodologies. The data also indicated no differences in virulence between the nematode populations, since the progenies showed similar resistance reactions to the M. exigua races 1 and 2. According to GI from the 47 mother plants evaluated, 27 progenies (57.4%) were classified as resistant to M. exigua races 1 and 2, with GI ranging from 0.0 to 1.4 and 20 progenies (42.6%) were susceptible with GI from 2.6 to 4.4. These results showed that most of the evaluated germplasm was very promising in relation to the development of new Arabica coffee cultivars with resistance to M. exigua.

RESUMO Uma avaliação taxonômica adequada dos espécimes é uma tarefa essencial para muitos estudos biológicos, e os dados de DNA têm fornecido fontes adicionais de informações para auxiliar no desemaranhamento de muitos grupos taxonômicos, como tem sido o caso de alguns táxons da megadiversa ictiofauna Neotropical. Aqui examinamos todas as espécies válidas dos gêneros de peixes Neotropicais de água doce Anodus, Argonectes, Bivibranchia e Micromischodus (família Hemiodontidae) para estabelecer limites moleculares entre elas. Todos os métodos de delimitação definiram exatamente apenas uma MOTU para Anodus elongatus, Argonectes longiceps, A. robertsi, Bivibranchia bimaculata, B. notata, B. velox e Micromischodus sugillatus, resultando em congruência total entre espécies nominais e MOTUs para estes sete táxons. As três espécies com resultados divergentes entre as análises, a saber, Anodus orinocensis, Bivibranchia fowleri e Bivibranchia simulata, corresponderam a mais de um MOTU por espécie em alguns métodos, mostrando que pode existir uma diversidade críptica dentro desses taxa. No geral, esta grande correspondência entre os limites morfológicos e moleculares para as espécies analisadas parece indicar uma taxonomia relativamente estável para esses gêneros de Hemiodontidae.

ABSTRACT A good taxonomic assessment of specimens is an essential task to many biological studies and DNA data have provided additional sources of information to assist in the disentanglement of taxonomic problems among living organisms, as has been the case of some taxa of the megadiverse Neotropical ichthyofauna. Here we assessed all valid species in the Neotropical freshwater fish genera Anodus, Argonectes, Bivibranchia and Micromischodus of the family Hemiodontidae to establish molecular species boundaries among them. All species delimitation methods defined exactly only one MOTU for Anodus elongatus, Argonectes longiceps, A. robertsi, Bivibranchia bimaculata, B. notata, B. velox, and Micromischodus sugillatus, resulting in total congruence between nominal species and MOTUs for these seven taxa. The three species having discordant results across analyses: Anodus orinocensis, Bivibranchia fowleri, and Bivibranchia simulata, matched more than one MOTU per species in some methods, meaning that cryptic diversity may exist within these taxa. Overall, this great correspondence among morphological and molecular boundaries for thae species analysed seem to be indicative of a reasonably stable taxonomy within these Hemiodontidae genera.

RESUMO Rhinoptera bonasus é uma espécie bento-pelágica e altamente migratória, que ocorre do sul dos Estados Unidos ao norte da Argentina. Devido aos efeitos da sobrepesca, R. bonasus está atualmente em risco, classificada pela Lista Vermelha da IUCN como vulnerável. Considerando a falta de dados moleculares disponíveis para R. bonasus, este estudo teve como objetivo descrever a variabilidade genética e estrutura populacional de espécimes amostrados em três ecorregiões do litoral brasileiro (Ecorregião Amazônica, Pará; Ecorregião Nordeste, Pernambuco e Ecorregião Sudeste, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e Santa Catarina), por meio de cinco marcadores microssatélites polimórficos. Assim, testaremos as hipóteses de panmixia e filopatria natal. Um total de 69 espécimes analisados revelou diferenciação genética individual e significativa entre os locais amostrados. As análises de Φ ST (0,12), PCA, DAPC e Bayesiana revelaram pelo menos dois agrupamentos genéticos distintos de R. bonasus. Os testes de IBD foram significativos, indicando uma correlação entre a distância genética e geográfica entre as populações, o que pode ser explicado pelo comportamento filopátrico reprodutivo. O comportamento filopátrico associado à mobilidade de R. bonasus pode influenciar os valores de diferenciação observados para todos os loci nas amostras investigadas.

ABSTRACT Rhinoptera bonasus is a bento-pelagic and highly migratory species occurring from southern United States to northern Argentina. Due to overfishing effects, R. bonasus is currently at risk, classified by the IUCN Red List as vulnerable. Considering the lack of molecular data available for R. bonasus, this study aimed to describe the genetic variability and population structure of specimens sampled from three Brazilian coast ecoregions (Amazon ecoregion, Pará; Northeastern ecoregion, Pernambuco and Southeastern ecoregion, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Santa Catarina), through five polymorphic microsatellite markers. Here testing the panmixia hypothesis for Brazilian ecoregions and test natal philopathy. A total of 69 analyzed specimens revealed individual and significant genetic differentiation between the sampled locations. Φ ST (0.12), PCA, DAPC and Bayesian analyses of the genetic population structure revealed at least two distinct genetic R. bonasus groupings. IBD tests were significant, indicating a correlation between genetic and geographical distance among populations, which can be explained by reproductive philopatric behavior. Philopatric behavior associated with R. bonasus mobility may influence the differentiation values observed for all loci in the investigated samples.
